Power & Performance
The Ford Mustang continues to impress with its power and performance. This iconic muscle car comes as a coupe or convertible, and all models have rear-wheel drive. For the 2023 model year, the Mustang carries over without any significant changes as it gets ready for the next generation to arrive. The big news for 2023 is the new S650 Mustang that will arrive in the summer. Here's a look at some of the features and equipment.
Trim Levels
The entry-level EcoBoost comes with 17-inch wheels, wiper-activated LED headlights, power-adjustable side mirrors, and LED sequential turn signal taillights. A step up to the EcoBoost Premium adds 18-inch wheels and heated side mirrors. The GT comes with 18-inch wheels, upgraded brakes, and the option for 19-inch wheels and summer tires. The EcoBoost Premium comes with a deck lid spoiler, 18-inch alloy wheels, heated side exterior mirrors, and side mirror puddle lights. The Mach 1 is a track-focused model with 19-inch wheels, performance tires, a sport-tuned suspension, and Brembo brakes. The Mach 1 also has special Mach 1 badging, a rear spoiler, a distinct front grille, and adaptive magnetic dampers.
Engine
Power for the EcoBoost comes from a 2.3-liter turbo four-cylinder gas engine that puts out 310 horsepower. The High-Performance package for the EcoBoost and EcoBoost bumps the horsepower up to 330. Choosing the GT will get you a 5.0-liter V-8 engine that develops 450 horsepower. It works with a six-speed manual transmission or a 10-speed automatic. The Mach 1 uses the V-8, but it increases its output to 470 horsepower.
Performance
No matter which Mustang you have, it will provide a lively ride on the road. The four-cylinder engine is not the most powerful in the lineup, but it puts less weight in the nose of the car, which results in more responsive steering. The Mach 1's adaptive suspension that automatically adjusts is fun to drive and responds quickly to inputs from the throttle.
Interior
There's room for four people in the Mustang. It comes with cloth upholstery, single-zone air conditioning, and power windows. The EcoBoost Premium has a combination of cloth and leather upholstery and adds power-adjustable front seats, along with heated and ventilated front seats. Technology in the Mustang EcoBoost Premium includes an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a nine-speaker stereo, two USB charging ports, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. A 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo is an available option, and you can also get a heated steering wheel and Recaro front seats, depending on the trim.
Safety Features
Every 2023 Ford Mustang comes with the Ford Co-Pilot360 suite of advanced driver aids. This group includes a forward collision warning system with automatic braking, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Lane-departure warning is also standard, and every trim has a rearview camera, a tire pressure monitor, and hill start assist. All Mustang trims offer the Ford Safe and Smart package with adaptive cruise control and a navigation system.
